If you have not been to Klang or have heard of it, but never knew where this little bustling city is, Google! (just, kidding!) Klang is known to be a food haven as well, apart from places like Melaka, Penang etc. and of course, the undeniably superb Bak Kut Teh is one of the most popular food in Klang. But apart from that, there are still many other legendary food shops around that sells the best authentic local food, that only “pa sang lang” will know about obviously. So if you are a tourist here in Klang, there are loads of hidden gems here that could be a guide on the food that you must try, just because it’s really good!

1. Klang Jaya Fried Chicken (NON-HALAL)



If you’re a huge fan of fried chicken, this is a must-go place to have it! Located by the street of Taman Klang Jaya, this stall has loads of customers that love having their chicken with wrapped packet nasi lemak. If you are not a fan of nasi lemak, you could also order other steam dumplings, as well as ‘siew mai.’

2. Esso Mamak (Restoran Vasagaie)

One of the most popular mamak in Klang that almost the whole of Klang knows its name. It was named after the name of the Esso petrol station that was located right opposite the mamak. What’s popular here is the nasi lemak goreng, that is unique. Don’t forget to eat it together with the ayam goreng that makes it the best combination ever!

3. Melawis Char Kuey Teow (NON-HALAL)

If you love fried kuey teow, be sure to have this! Not only Penang is famous for char kueh teow but this legendary stall has been around for decades and is still standing and serving patrons in Klang. An old school corner shop lot with an open area, with wooden benches and tables for customers to dine for a quick dinner. One of the best places to have fried kuey teow.

4. Emporium Makan, Klang

Well known by all Klangites, it is a restaurant filled with amazing food of different kinds. It is located in the city’s oldest buildings in Klang Town. Though the place may be a tad bit dirty, but the food is amazing and worth the trip! If you’re wondering what to eat here, be sure to taste the lobak, loh shue fun, yong tau foo, and chicken rice. Prices are super affordable as well for a satisfying dinner.

5. Melawis Mee Hoon Kueh (NON-HALAL)

If you are a fan of hot soupy food, a bowl of mee hoon kueh is a very comforting food. This dish is one of Klang’s popular dishes that is dough made from a combination of flour water and eggs, flattened in a noodle machine served with soup. It’s amazing and best eaten for breakfast or even lunch. This shop is located few doors away from the Melawis Char Kuey Teow shop. They also serve prawn noodles, and curry mee occasionally. One of their other popular dishes would also be the lor yee mee. Not forgetting, the egg and pineapple tart sold next door, sold by an aunty that has been there for ages, would be great for dessert after having your lunch! Food sold there, easily gets sold out due to huge demands, so be there early!

6. Warung Pak Din Palm Grove Klang

This stall has been around for more than a decade, and has been popular among Klangites during tea time especially, as it has various types of traditional kuih’s of up to 28 types, as well as main course food such as chicken rice, kuew tiau kerang, mee karing and many more.

7. Taman Chi Liung Claypot Rice (NON-HALAL)

Not many people know of this spot, as it is an open area located in Chi Liung among the housing area. It is also only open on Friday to Sunday and its sold out really quickly, which explains that it’s really good claypot rice. Prices are as low as RM13 for a big pot that can feed up to 3-4 people (depending on how much you eat!) The pork belly soup is also a must-try together with this serving.

8. Klang Curry House / Love Mom Restaurant

Popular for authentic Sri Lankan food, everything and anything cooked here is is made from scratch. For instance, they prefer to grind their own chilli powder and spice pastes are made in-house rather than relying on the commercial packets, which makes it really authentic! The vegetables served there are also said to be organically healthy. The shop is open for breakfast till late lunch hours and one of their best picks are the minced shark meat, mutton varuval, chicken curry, mutton varuval and bittergourd salad. Also, not forgetting the ‘kariwila sambol’ that is cooked based on an old Ceylonese recipe.

 9. Fei Kay Bak Kut Teh (NON-HALAL)

Popular for their mouthwatering dry bak kut teh, that is served with dry chilli, okra and dry squid. It is really good that you would be saying “tambah nasi” after having one plate of slightly oiled rice. This restaurant is open during breakfast hour until late lunch, however it will be closed and opened again during dinner time.

10. Restaurant Hong Wah (NON-HALAL)

All you pork and duck lovers out there! This restaurant serves one of the best Beijing style roasted ducks, with crispy skin. Even their roasted duck is one of their popular dishes there that is really good. Its best eaten with rice, and it’s a must to drink the soup!
