SHAH ALAM: The Selangor state government has allocated RM3.6 million to provide free bus services in Shah Alam, Klang and Subang Jaya, starting Wednesday.

Chairman of the Standing Committee for Investment, Industry (Small-Medium Enterprise), Commerce and Transportation, Datuk Teng Chang Khim said 11 Rapid KL buses would be utilised to provide the services.

"The buses will pass through all commuter stations, local authorities (PBT), schools and government offices within three local councils namely Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and Klang Municipal Council (MPK).

"We hope to extend the service to Ampang and Kajang within this year; as we are aware of the awful traffic congestion in these two areas," he told reporters after officiating the free bus service here today.

Teng added that the Rapid KL buses used in the 'Selangorku' bus service were wheelchair-accessible for the disabled and have free WIFI access.

Meanwhile, Rapid Bus, a subsidiary of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd in a statement said, the free bus service starts from 6am to 9pm daily and would operate every 15 minutes along the three routes.

The Shah Alam bus route covers 20.2km from the Section 19 KTM Commuter station to Wisma Jakel in Section 7, while the 8.5km route in Klang starts at Wisma Tahfiz and loop back to the same location.

In Subang Jaya the route is between the Subang Jaya KTM Commuter station and USJ 6 as well as Station 7 Bus Rapid Transit - Sunway Route, which began operations last month, it stated.
