Dear PaSangLangs,

In view of how bad the flood has become in Klang, admin think it's time for admin to share knowledge on what admin did for admin's house in order to prevent the flood water from entering our house.

DISCLAIMER:
Admin is just sharing knowledge here for the benefit of all PaSangLangs. You do not have to follow bulat2 what admin did... just improvise to get the best results for your home. What works for admin's home may not work for your home. So don't be afraid to experiment with different methods!

With the above said...

1. First things first, you will have to build SLABS at all the entry points to your house (applicable to your house ground floor only, of course! ;) E.g.: front door, side door, back door, toilet door, etc.). This is a MUST, because these slabs will act as your FIRST LINE OF DEFENCE against flood water from entering your home!

2. Secondly, you've gotta take care of all those floor water outlets in your home itself (e.g.: where the water leaves your toilet, kitchen, wash area, etc.). Basically what we gotta do is, make sure that these water outlets are CLOSED during heavy rain (something like a flood gate).

In order to do this, you've gotta get a trustworthy contractor to create a kind of "cover" for all your floor water outlets. This will involve some MAJOR HACKING, but trust me, this method is quite effective!

What the contractor should do is:
i) Create a cover with screw linings (the cover in the photo looks like a pipe, because it's easier to twist a pipe than to twist a small cover)
ii) Hack your existing water outlets and rebuild it with screw linings (so that can screw in the cover later)

As you can see from the photos below, this is how everything should fit in.

Now, getting all the above to fit is quite tricky... because it requires a skilled contractor (like Phua Chu Kang) to ensure that the cover can fit ngam2 into the water outlet. Even for admin's case, we had to call the contractor to come back and "fine-tune" the cover and water outlet a few times in order to perfect it (so that no water can seep through the cover).

It's gonna be really tedious (and dirty) work, but if done properly, it will prevent flood water from coming in via your floor water outlets within your home!

In short, slabs only prevent flood water from coming in from OUTSIDE your home... but the flood water that comes in from INSIDE your home is also a big problem! Most of the time, the flood water will come in from the TOILET first. That's where this cover comes in handy!

Hope with the above knowledge sharing, it will benefit all PaSangLangs. Just get your trusted contractor to do this for you... it shouldn't be a problem for them to do something like this.

All the best!

P.S.:
1. Sorry if this method doesn't work for your home. It worked for admin, and that's why admin is sharing this information here for everyone's benefit. ^_^

2. No matter how high you build your slabs, if your housing area is a low-lying area, the water may STILL enter your house. Therefore, please be extra careful when selecting the area for your dream home.
