KLANG: Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Sunday launched Klang’s third major bridge, the Raja Muda Nala bridge, which connects the northern and southern parts of the city.

Raja Muda Nala was the eldest son of the first Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sallehuddin Shah.

The third bridge, linking Jalan Sungai Bertih, Jalan Tanjung Shawal and Jalan Goh Hock Huat, is 2.5km long, with 1.2km of it passing over Sungai Klang.

The bridge is expected to reduce traffic congestion by 20 per cent at the two main bridges in Klang — the Kota bridge and the Tengku Kelana bridge.

Accompanying the Selangor state ruler was his consort, Tengku Permaisuri Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.

Azmin said the bridge was constructed mainly to reduce traffic congestion in Klang, while improving existing traffic flow systems.

“It also serves as a safe and user friendly alternative travel lane for drivers.

“The Sultan’s presence here today depicts his royal highness’ concern over infrastructure development in the state for the convenience and well-being of his people.

“This third bridge is one of the main development projects in the state that was fully borne by the state government without any form of loan from local or international institution,” he said in his speech before the launch.

The Raja Muda Nala bridge project began on July 17, 2014 and has taken almost three years to complete at a cost of RM199 million.

The two-way, four-lane bridge starts from the Sungai Udang/Telok Pulai intersection and ends at the Jalan Goh Huck Huat intersection.
