Residents of Taman Sinaran in Teluk Pulai, Klang, want increased police presence to combat the rise in crime in their neighbourhood. – The Malaysian Insider pic by Noel Achariam, October 26, 2015.

Residents of Taman Sinaran in Teluk Pulai, Klang want the authorities to beef up the security of the neighbourhood.

The residents claim that there has been a spike in crime in the area in the last couple of months.

The residents are worried about their safety as there has been many cases of snatch thefts and break-ins.

A resident who wished to be known as Chin said his car was broken into 10 times within a span of a year.

"The last time my car got broken into was two weeks ago, despite my parking it in front of my house. Crime has definitely worsened here," he said.

Chin said his neighbour, a 60-year-old woman, fell victim to snatch thieves in front of her house last week.

"My neighbour was leaving her home with her grandchildren at 9.30am  when she was attacked by two men on a motorcycle. They had a machete and slashed her hand when she refused to give them her handbag," he said.

More than 50 residents aired their grouses concerning the lack of security in the neighbourhood at a dialogue session with Klang MP Charles Santiago yesterday.

Santiago suggested that the residents set up a neighbourhood security committee.

"Once the residents have enough support, they can look into having a gated and guarded community.

"The residents must also start engaging with the police on security in their area," he said.

Santiago said he would be meeting with the police to suggest that they hold Op Payung to create more police presence in the area.

"I will also ask the Klang Municipal Council to brighten up the streets in the area," he said. – October 26, 2015.
